SCRET’s Diving Philosophy
SCRET uses a DIR (Doing It Right) approach to diving. This system is a holistic, minimalist, and comprehensive approach to diving where each component is a part of the overall whole. The attitude is to take only what is needed for the dive, not what might be necessary “just in case.”
Components of SCRET’s holistic approach to technical diving:
A standardized system reduces risk of serious injury caused by strenuous activities in a potentially deadly environment
- Planning - Begins days or weeks in advance- All members participate and agree prior to entering the water- Includes logistics, dive plan, team composition and roles, gas mixes, deco schedules, etc.
- Team Approach - Buddy system- Everyone has a role and responsibility, not just the diver- No solo diving
- Equipment - Standardized gear- Keep it simple and plan for the dive, not “what if’s”- No personal preference
- Training- Continuous learning and improvement- GUE classes including cave- In and out of water
- Physical Fitness- High level of fitness reduces the likelihood of injury and increase the enjoyment
